Red Rabbits stepping to the sky!
(quite literally)

Did you love the red vintage couches from the Salvation Army at Red Rabbits? Did you hate them? We know you’re both out there ;) In any case, we suspect you won’t mind stepping up to the 3 sweet floors above our old offices (same building, Sagveien 23c, entrance 1, 0459 Oslo).
We welcome you with love into our new offices with twice the space, triple the features and quadruple the excitement! Behold, beware – our brand new rabbit hole!

DC signes up for a Red Rabbits membership

(first poster for DC)

We are head over heels happy about this announcement! DC is one of our favorite brands, and we feel really blessed to be designing for them to promote the brand even further.

“Live your brand” they say.. Not only do we live and breath Red Rabbits. We also live our favorite brands that we deeply respect and are thrilled to be working with! Hence the DC and Sweet Protection posters, stickers, streetwear, outerwear, shoes and hardware spread all over the Red Rabbits office and crew ;)

Here it is on a couple of norwegian sites:

Catalog and posters at ISPO 2008

I went to München to the ISPO international sports mass first quarter of 2008. The catalog was a hit and the posters were made from the section separators. All posters in the pictures are by Red Rabbits.

Sweet Protection

We closed a very important deal for Red Rabbits today with Sweet Protection. The deal is for the design of all catalogs, website and marketing material on a steady basis for the years to come. Steady deals like this one makes it easier to focus on developing Red Rabbits and establishing relations, as we don’t have to “fight to survive” (as much hehe..)

The offer came from Sweet Protection after the success of the Sweet Protection catalog (winter 08/09) we designed for them. Concept, design, 3d, photography and illustration, all by Red Rabbits, exceeded their already high expectations.

Here’s a sample:

More from the catalog at RR graphic.

Abry Design + Red Rabbits

We had a meeting with Abry Design today and we agreed that Red Rabbits will be covering the main part of interaction design (web/digital) for Abry Design, as their main focus is industrial design (products). We’re looking forward to working with them!

This smoking hot brand new deal :) leaves us with a platform of clients and projects through this well established company – aka a certain safety.

Website

www.redrabbits.com was not available, so we bought www.redrabbits.no and mocked up a site based on typography only, as we don’t have a visual profile yet. Here’s the first “coming soon” site: http://www.redrabbits.com/v1/

We got www.redrabbits.com on auction at www.sedo.com for a couple of hundred dollars. Also bought redrabitts.com, redrabbitts.com and redrabitts.com for everyone who can’t spell it right :) So now all emails and web traffic gets here!

The first branding steps – Naming the baby

The process of branding our company to come, started out with defining what the brand should and shouldn’t be/represent/do. We spent some time defining the “personality” of our brand. Keywords were: “open”, “positive”, “consistency”, “integrity”, “clear communication”, etc…in essence, we wanted to bring our own personalities into the creation of the brand.

When we had the basics down for what we are, Pete and I twisted our brains dry to come up with a suitable name.. Should it be Norwegian or English? Or Hebrew? We had loose brain storms as well as more goal oriented methods. We played around with ideas based on our plan on having a red line (consistency) through everything we are and do as a company. “Red” was short and catchy, but we would have to have a last name as well, as Red alone was pretty much “taken” by other companies locally and globally. So the process went on with a search for what to combine with “Red” to describe our brand.

I was on a boat from Nesodden to Oslo when I got a call from Pete. Hours earlier, I was thinking that the last part of the brand name should add some personality to it. Something alive. “Red Deer”, “Red Fox” – playing with animal names obviously. Now back to the call from Pete: he told me he had an idea for a name. He had been searching for inspiration in the world of music. As he browsed through one of our favorite bands, The Shins, he came across “Red Rabbits”. This song didn’t only match our “search criteria”, but the song itself has the exact same personality and “feel” as our brand!

Have a listen:
The Shins – Red Rabbits

“Red Rabbits” had all the qualities we were looking for. It’s catchy, “RR” is a fresh acronym (associations to Rolls Roys can’t hurt us hehe..), red is a lively color for branding, it carries a link back to the “red line”. And last but not least: we’re not “one”, we’re several “rabbits” – a crew, ready to spread and multiply :)

Finally, and needless to say, we agreed to keep it ;)

A baby was born

Ok, the first sign of life..

Petter just got back from 6 years of inspiration in Australia. Both ready to build our careers, we had a couple of beers, planning our next steps.. Originally, we planned to start a new Norwegian street/fashion
magazine. But the whole mag idea seemed a little….well maybe later, but not right now. So we decided to merge our skills as the core of a creative studio, later named Red Rabbits.

As the evening progressed, we got a lot of ideas down for what we should be and represent, what kind of people and skills we needed and which services we should provide. In a couple of hours, our thoughts ran from just hooking up the two of us to a high power creative crew!

So that’s the start…a lot of mind work to come!!
